WMP News #1

Here’s the first WebManga Project News post of this year and the first ever! 😀

Vampire Fetish is on a break right now. The author, Loom, is having some difficulties with her computer. Technical issues so to speak.
As for chapters, the 4th chapter is now complete and 5 is “cooking”, according to Loom. Loom also says that chapter 1 is being redone and the new pages are already penciled!

CurseD 1.9, unfortunately is also on a break right now. The author is working on a contest which will make almost impossible to update. News content from his webcomic page say that there will be pages updated this weekend.
Contest ends on February so, by the end of the first week of February, CurseD 1.9 will start its normal rhythm.

Art of Kiki’s Delivery Service and Princess Mononoke SB Book

This animation came to me when I was a small boy and I have to say that I remember that I loved it and watched it so many times. About two months ago I found myself wishing to study and watch movies directed by Hayao Miyazaki and this one (although I havent watched it again yet) is one more amazing work coming from him!

I always wanted to know his methods and how his sketches and concepts look like. If you’re a fan of his work too, here are some samples I found at Halcyon Realms 😉

Berserk movie is coming!

Newtype (a magazine) revealed that this year (2011) there will be released a movie based on the anime of Berserk by Miura Kentaro.

It also revealed that this is only the first part of a project which will adapt the whole story. The information is still scarce but, probably, the animation will be the burden of Studio 4 ° C.
Unfortunately, this adaptation occurs after the adoption of “certain laws” so that the adjustment is never very faithful to the manga, known for its violent content and eroticism.

J-Comi, Google Work on Comic Viewer With Foreign Support

Manga creator Ken Akamatsu (Negima! Magister Negi Magi, Love Hina) revealed last Wednesday that his manga distribution site J-Comi is collaborating with Google on comic viewer software with “dynamic advertising” and overseas support. J-Comi currently serves free, PDF-formatted manga with unchanging, embedded advertising in Japanese.

With the new comic viewer that J-Comi is developing with Google, Akamatsu said that “American readers can see advertising from American businesses”.
In addition, the advertising can automatically change every time a manga is read, depending on the country, local time, interests of the reader. Which is actually a great feature! And a great way of advertising!
Akamatsu also plans to allow readers to enter and save comments next to every page of a manga. With this feature, he suggests that fans can offer volunteer translations, add footnotes to explain keywords, interact with other fans, and other possibilities.

Webmanga Proiect – Manga Resource

Web Comics… have you heard of such thing?

Manga Resource, as told before, is trying to develop the artistic part of the blog (which is the main objective of this blog) and one of the most thought projects for this blog is a way of featuring and present to you – readers and fans – webcomics!

What are Webcomics?

Webcomics, online comics, or Internet comics are comics published on a website. While most are published exclusively on the web, others are also published in magazines, newspapers or often in self-published books.

Webcomics can be compared to self-published print comics in that almost anyone can create their own webcomic and publish it. In January 2007, there were an estimated 38,000 webcomics being published. Webcomics range from traditional comic strips to graphic novels and cover many genres and subjects. Very few are financially self-sustaining.

What is Manga Resource’s Webmanga Project?

Webmanga Project is a project that supports any type of webcomic with a drawing style based or related to manga. With this project Manga Resource offers an easier way of featuring and promote manga stories through out the world and even offering some support in the artistic professional mangaka life.

Something you should understand: Manga Resource is not going to host the manga! Manga Resource is just going to feature your work.

  • How does this project work?

After you enter this project, a post will be created with the info on the webcomic, exposing the author, the progress of the work (chapters per time), the number of chapters, its genre the synopsis and the URL linking you to the site.

Every two weeks there will be a new post called  WMP News with the new chapters of the week of each webmanga and a thumb with the cover for each and obviously some news concerning them (in case a chapter fails or the artists decides to take a break)

  • How to enter Webmanga Project?

First you need to create your manga (traditionally or digitally) and host it in a webcomic host such as SmackJeeves, ComicFurry or other. Send an email to mangaresource.blog@gmail.com with all the information needed (template below)

Template for Email

Author (could be just a nick/pen name if you prefer)
Rated (Teen/Adult/…)
Number of chapters
Progress – Chapters per time (example: 1C/1,5W)
Banner/Button (160×45 px)
Illustration of the comics (a cover)

  1. How do I host a comic on the web?

You have multiple options when hosting your comic on the web. Here’s a small list of the most used webcomic hosting sites:

After submission

After sending the email I will create a small post specially introducing your webcomic and put your small banner/button (160×45) on the blog’s sidebar (explanation shown above) and there you have it! This way you will have a full profile on the blog’s archive and a banner/button linking to your webmanga in our sidebar! 😀 Everyone can start reading your manga with just a click!

Join this project! It’s worth it 😉

Tsuki by manusia-no-31 is an amazing art work! The textures, the colors and the figures are amazingly very well done. I chose this art work because in the pile of chosen art, this is the most incredible and the one that most suits this post’s theme: Mysthic Nature.
